Essential characteristics of an ideal French translation

French is one of the most important languages in the European Union, apart from being the universal language of romance. French has become popular because of its unique literary and aesthetic richness. Because of that, it is increasingly being required as a language to be learnt worldwide and it its popularity is growing among university students in the United Kingdom and in the United States, among other countries.

Baudelaire, Voltaire and Proust were only a few of the legendary writers who helped the language to widespread. In order to fully understand their complex ideas, an accurate and sophisticated translation from French is needed. French translations are not only helpful when someone is reading a French novel or poem, but it is also helpful in business endeavors as well.

In any of these cases, a translation agency will be your ideal partner. As human beings, we tend to look for the faster and easier solution. That´s why we are usually tempted to use Google Translate when we need a translation. However, Google Translate is not a reliable solution for professional translations and you may not be able to fully understand a translated text, or even it could have some important and, therefore, risky mistakes because of its lack of context understanding.

Differently from Google Translate, a professional agency will assure that their clients can fully understand a translated text from or into French (or any other language). These agencies have professional linguistics who ensure that the reader will be able to use the translated text without any issue. This is because these companies have years of experience working with different languages.

Another advantage of human made translations is that behind every word there could be a lot of research about the context and the word itself. This hard word can´t be done by Google Translate, for instance.

Translations agencies have a broad type of services, such as technical, marketing, medical, legal or financial, for example. Any of these types have specific characteristics. That is why professional agencies´ translators work along with other professional in order to have a deeper understanding about the topic. Many translators themselves have professional experience in a specific field apart from their translation experience itself.

Accuracy is one of the most important features when it comes to professional translations. Mistranslations or misplaced words or expressions can be catastrophic as the entire purpose and significance of the text would be altered, which would be quite irritating for the reader in order to comprehend the relevant translated information.

Also, a well done translation has to stick to the original meaning of the source text. It is vital to stick to the fundamentals, as improvisation might radically disturb the true nature of the readability. Therefore, a translation service must be perfect in maintaining the exact information and form; for example, the original use (poem, short essay, etc.) in the target language must match the one in the source text.

An outstanding translation must be clear. It has to be effortlessly understandable by the reader and must not use complex vocabulary in the target language. The reader should not get confused in comprehending the nuances of the primary language.

It also has to be culturally appropriate. This means that it should hold the local taste of the story without hurting any religious or social feelings of the target language and culture.

The same applies for the tone, it also must be appropriate. The tone of the translated data should be well-matched with the typical language from the source language.

Poems are one of the most difficult translations to perform, because, at the same time that the meaning is translated, the translator has to be able to keep the same style as the writer, and in some cases even the metric. This can only be done by highly skilled translators.

Another key element is that translations have to be affordable. That is why hiring an agency is a good decision, as they are more efficient in their administrative tasks. This will allow translators to fully work in the texts while the administrative team works in the administrative tasks. Usually, a project manager links the two areas of the company, while he or she also contacts the client. This makes the process much more efficient for all parties: translators, agencies´ staff and clients.

In conclusion, the best translation is that one that, when read, a reader can feel that it was originally written in the target language. This means that the source text essence is still there, but now it can be understood by people who speak another language from the original one. A respectable translation will have no bias hidden between the lines.

Some independent translators can make great translations, but when it comes to professional translation agencies, this is always the rule.
