Field Marshal KM Cariappa – First Indian Chief of Indian Army

Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa OBE was the principal Indian Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Indian Army (28 January 1899–15 May 1993). He is one of only two Indian Army officials to hold the five-star position of Field Marshal, with Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw being the other.
