FIFA 20 Comfort Trade Keen FIFA players that worked their way through the surprisingly effective and affecting ‘trilogy’ of The Journey may have noticed the 100 million selling football series’ inclination to go back to the street.

Hearing that FIFA 20 wants to make pace a focus again may strike fear into many but EA Sports wants core-play to be reliant on more than the pace attribute alone. Dribbling is going to be just as important this time around as a video played demonstrating how attackers with lower dribbling can be caught and tackled easier by defenders while a high dribbling stat will still allow the attacker to beat them. All of this is part of EA's push to make FIFA 20 the most realistic football game ever.

Volta matches themselves feel very reminiscent of the 2012 FIFA Street reboot--while there is a greater focus on skills and showing off than is found in regular soccer it's not as over-the-top as the previous Street games were. There are no gamebreakers or classes and the control scheme buy FIFA 20 Comfort Trade carries over from regular FIFA a move EA says is designed to help players transition between the two otherwise diametrically opposed ways of playing. In that respect it seems a successful move--and bouncing balls off walls and nutmegging opposition players before getting on your hands and knees to head a ball over the line is thrilling--but it did feel a little like I was straining against the control scheme in order to achieve such feats. It's as if the framing was just a little too much like standard FIFA to enable the great moments to flow. Hopefully EA can tighten this up in the remaining weeks before launch.

The established modes of FIFA 20 may not be undergoing dramatic overhauls themselves this year including FUT and a career mode with a handful of welcome tweaks but no major changes. But should it pay off and find a new audience Volta could prove to be the football series most disruptive long-term addition for some time
