Most Golden Retrievers prefer to be part of a pack and enjoy the company of other dogs or pets. They will eagerly go on a walk or jog with you for exercise and can live well in an apartment, suburban or other settings provided they continue to get regular exercise.

The Golden Retriever can come in two forms, the well known fluffy and snuggly lighter dog and the darker, leaner, more athletic version, both making great companions. However, if a Golden Retriever is left alone for long periods without proper mental and physical stimulation, it can be prone to biting.
