A non-negotiable thing with any beauty stylist is curling your eyelashes. It makes your eyes pop out and awake, only taking a few seconds. Maybe you have had a brow wax and shaping done and want to try curling your lashes at home. But how should you do it if you do not have a lash curler? Here we provide you with how to use a lash curler and some alternatives as well.

When To Curl Your Lashes

So when you curl your lashes before or after applying mascara. Well, the best time to do it is before a mascara application. The reason is simple: curling them with mascara can cause the curler to stick and pull your lashes. Further, it also depends if you have had lash extensions in Austin done. Then using a mechanical eyelash curler is a big NO. But if you do want to curl them, we recommend using a heated eyelash curler instead, as it works like a curling iron.

Steps In Curling Your Eyelashes

  1. Prep the lash curler by warming it up with your blow dryer. Give your wrist a tap with it to make sure it is not scorching hot.
  2. With your eye halfway open, position your curler around the lashes placing it as the base while looking down into a mirror. Get as close as possible to the eyelash base without grabbing your skin.
  3. Once comfortable, then get curling by clamping down for 5to 10 seconds. Again, start slow to prevent skin curling.
  4. Now take it to the next level if you find it difficult to hold the curler by gently tilting the handle towards your forehead, creating an intense curl. Do this through the entire length of your lashes. Next, turn your head to the side and pulse the curler down lengthwise with your lashes. Finally, place the curler back and give one last pulse.
  5. After curling your eyelashes, you can use a choice of curling mascara to give it a lash lift.

What to Do If You Do Not Have a Lash Curler

There is no need to threat as the following methods also work well:

  • Warm hands with gentle pressure also curl lashes. Blow some warm breath on your fingertips and press on the lashes. Hold them for ten seconds and repeat as needed. Then, finish it off with some mascara for that added curl.
  • Let your mascara work double duty using the wand to curl the lashes. You can do this by moving in a zigzag motion to curl the tips and count up to ten while holding the rod in place.
  • Or you can use the spooning technique by placing a spoon in warm water. Then, take the spoon with the curved side over your eyelid and press the lashes against the edge for ten seconds.
  • Another excellent method is using a hot toothbrush and brushing your lashes starting at the base while holding the tips to create a curl.
  • Lastly, after applying some mascara, you can hold your lashes in a curled position. Do this by gently lifting them from the base of your lid using a cotton swab. Once the mascara dries, the eyelashes remain in that position.
