There are eight ways to invest in the Portuguese economy, which can be divided into three groups: real estate purchase, capital investment and business investment.

Real estate investment. Buying a villa or apartment is the most popular way to get a golden visa. There are several options for investing in real estate:

280,000 € - for housing in areas with low population density in the interior or in the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira.
350,000 € - for buildings under renovation, built more than 30 years ago.
500,000 € - for modern real estate in other regions of Portugal.
From January 1, 2022, the geography of investing in real estate will change. It will not be possible to buy housing in Lisbon, Porto, Algarve and Braga.

Tavira, Monchique, Castro Marim, Évora, Vila do Bispo, Alte, Coimbra, Silves, Guimaraes, Douro, Serra da Estrela, as well as some metropolitan areas of Porto will remain open for real estate investment.

Until the end of 2021, you can still invest in real estate in Lisbon and Porto.

Investing in real estate is the most popular option over the entire period of the program
capital investment. Another popular option among investors is capital investment. There are several options:

a deposit in a Portuguese bank or an investment in approved investment projects in the amount of at least 1 million euros or 1.5 million euros from January 1, 2022;
investments from 350,000 € in research activities or 500,000 € from 2022;
a contribution from 250,000 € to support artistic production, restore and preserve the national cultural heritage;
shares in investment and venture funds in the amount of 350,000 € or 500,000 € from January 1, 2022 with a maturity of at least 5 years. At least 60% of the fund's investments must go to companies headquartered in Portugal.
Business investment. This option is suitable if the investor plans to take the business to the international arena. Conditions for the applicant:

creation of 10 or more jobs;
investments from 350,000 € or 500,000 € from January 1, 2022 in the creation or increase of the authorized capital of a company registered in Portugal and the creation of 5 jobs for 3 years.
