People often stuck with the problems associated with the windows that show the prompt “quicken won’t open”. If you often get this message on your windows or you are unable to open Quicken for Windows after a recent product update, then it may be possible that there could be an issue with the installation which is preventing Quicken from opening. Before we can come to the solution part it is important to note that Quicken should not be installed on a network or shared drive. While you can back up data files to a network, but you should not open or run Quicken on a network. You must make sure that quicken is installed on your computer hard drive. Here are some of the steps that you can use to open a Quicken file.
1. Restart your computer- Go to the start menu and reach out to shutdown tab and click it.
2. Retry installing the patch file- You can check the version of your Quicken file and then download and install the update patch. After installing the patch file you can restart your computer.
3. Try to open Quicken without a data file
• You can do this, hold Ctrl + Shift on your keyboard and double click the Quicken icon. Continue to hold Ctrl + Shift until Quicken opens with a blank screen.
• If this is happening there may be an issue with the data file that is restricting Quicken from Opening Properly.
• You need to Validate the restored backup file by going to File> File Operations> Validate and Repair
• Check Validate file and click ok.
• Follow these steps if you are getting the prompt on the window screen saying “quicken can’t open your data file”. If still, the problem persists then you can go with step 4.
4. Temporarily disable your anti-virus and Firewall
It may be the case that your anti-virus and firewall on your system could be blocking Quicken from running properly. You need to update your protection setting to “Quicken as a safe program”. If you don’t know how to update these settings, please contact your antivirus/ firewall provider. Still, if the issue persists then you can move on to step 5.
5. Remove and reinstall Quicken
I. Uninstall your Quicken and disable your firewall/antivirus.
II. Reinstall quicken
III. Enable your firewall/antivirus again.
Follow these steps and you may not have the problem of “Quicken will not open” again. If the problem still persists then need to contact our Quicken Support Team.
