Marriage is an auspicious ceremony that marks the union of two souls. It is a joyous ceremony that involves two families and friends. Everyone comes together to celebrate the togetherness of the bride and the groom and bless them in abundance. As moving as these wedding ceremonies are, there is a lot of hard work and expenses that families spend to make this day memorable.

Invitation cards and their variety

There are many arrangements that families make before the day arrives to make the wedding day special. There is a lot taken care of, starting from shopping to booking the places for weddings. One of the important things done is inviting guests to the wedding, which families do through wedding invitation cards. Without these cards, sometimes the marriages are considered incomplete and unsuccessful.

Indian wedding cards are given to the friends and family of the bride and groom, inviting them to attend the wedding with their gracious presence. The tradition of giving invitation cards started way in the middle ages. It is a formality to officially ask everyone you know to be by your side on your special day. These wedding cards have different decorations and names according to the region or religion in India. In some places, people call them Nimantran Patra, and in some other places, these are called Lagnapatrika, Kankotri, and more.

People make wedding invitation cards with different kinds of paper like marbled, matte, glossy, mylar, parchment, vellum, glassine, and many others. Then they decorate them with various gemstones, Kundan’s, and ribbons. These cards are famous in India for their unique style, colors, symbols, and patterns. The colors used are red, orange, yellow, green, and their combination makes it even better. The designs used are peacock, peacock feather, Diya, swastika, OM.

The information inside a card

People write Indian wedding cards in several languages like English, Hindi and Bengali, and many others. The message in it conveys effortlessly and efficiently. It contains the names of the bride, groom and along with their parents and siblings if possible. The cards also have the date, time, and venue of the wedding and a small message, inviting everyone in the marriage to bless them on their happiest day of life. Indian marriage invitation cards do not have the trend of RSVP or thank you cards. Fortunately, there are no restrictions on the number of guests.
