To be brave and pave their way, breaking the stereotyping and narrow-mindedness of the society. They have broken the shackles and embarked to inspire millions on women empowerment. Indian sportswomen have remarkably engraved their path to success and glory.

Indian sportswomen have climbed the ladders of success and are putting India’s map on the front.

From Olympics to Paralympic games to chess to golf, with hard work and belief, there are many Indian sportswomen who have made the country proud, but here’s our take on the top 10 Indian sportswomen who have made flourished all the way.

Saikom Mirabai Chanu

She is the miracle of the silver band. Mirabai Chanu has been representing India in the 49kg category since 2014. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she lifted 49kg with a clean slate and without a flinch, signing the deal in her favor. She won the Silver medal in the women’s category of 49kg.

She also won World Weightlifting Championships and multiple medals at the Commonwealth games.

Mirabai Chanu, from Manipur, has bestowed her efforts and hard work into success.

She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. She was also awarded the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in her name for her contributions to sports.

She is one of the fresh faces of Indian sportswomen in 2021.

P V Sindhu

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is an Indian professional Badminton player. She has won many medals throughout her career. PV Sindhu is the first Indian to become the World Champion in badminton and the second athlete to win two consecutive medals in the Olympic Games.

She rose to success in her career-high as she was ranked 2 in world-ranking in April 2017. In 2021, her rank in world-ranking is at 7.

PV Sindhu is one great Indian sportswomen, who have made much significance in her life by winning titles, awards, and medals in her name.

She is the recipient of the sports honors Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna and received the fourth highest civilian award Padma Shri. She was also awarded the third highest award, Padma Bhushan, 2020.

Lovlina Borgohain

The 24-year old Indian boxer won a bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, becoming the third Indian boxer to win a medal in the Olympics. To be where she is today, Lovlina sacrificed a lot in her life. She had to stay away from her family for at least eight years.

She also won a bronze medal in the 2018 & 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship.

It is something to be proud of as Lovlina is the second boxer from Assam to represent in the Olympics and is a growing persona among the Indian sportswomen. She was honored with Arjuna Award.

Koneru Humpy

Koneru Humpy is an Indian Chess Player. She is currently reigning as the women’s world’s rapid champion in 2021. She became the youngest woman ever to achieve the title of Grandmaster at the age of 15 years. This record was subsequently broken by Hou Yifan in 2008.

She has won three gold medals in the World Youth Chess Championship. She has won renowned titles and recognitions at international levels.

She makes the moves look easy, but as any chess player would know, not everyone is Koneru Humpy.

The Arjuna and Padma Shri awardee holds the reign of the world’s rapid champion and ranks three in the world.

In 2020, Koneru won the BBC Indian Sportswomen of the year award with a public vote.

Avani Lekhara

Avani Lekhara is an Indian Paralympian and a rifle shooter. She is also the first Indian woman to script history by winning a gold medal at Paralympics in 10m air rifle standing. She won a bronze medal at 50 m rifle three positions in the 2020 Paralympics.

Lekhara is currently World No. 2 in Women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1.

She has received India’s highest sporting honor award in 2021, Khel Ratna Award.

She has made the country proud and is among many inspiring Indian sportswomen with her shooting skills and received the Best Female Debut Winner at the 2021 Paralympic Awards.

Deepika Kumari

Currently ranked as World No 1, Deepika Kumari is an Indian professional archer. She won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in the women’s individual recurve event. She has won individual gold medals in her name in two of the three stages of the World Cup, one in Guatemala and the other in Paris.

She is the recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2012. She was honored with the FICC Sportsperson of the Year Award in 2014. She also received the Padma Shri award in 2016.

Deepika Kumari won a gold medal in Guatemala City in women’s individuals in 2021.

Aditi Ashok

Aditi Ashok is a professional golfer from Bangalore, India.

She made her Olympics debut in the 2016 Summer Olympics. She qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, representing India, and finished 4th.

Her stroke of genius has made the country proud in 2021. With her hard work and sanity, she is delighted to finish the year with a top 10.

Aditi Ashok has received the Arjuna Award in Golf. She is India’s golf star and aspiring Indian sportswomen.

Bhavina Patel

Bhavina Hasmukhbhai Patel is one of the best Indian sportswomen of 2021, she is a parathlete and a table tennis player. She made the country proud by winning a silver medal in Class 4 Table Tennis at the 2020 Paralympic games in Tokyo.

She has reached the World No 2 ranking by winning the silver medal in the individual category at the 2011 PTT Thailand open.

She became the first Indian player to win a table tennis player at the Paralympics.

Sakshi Malik

Sakshi Malik is a freestyle Indian wrestler. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 58kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics.

She also won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow. She also won a bronze medal at the 2015 Asian Wrestling Championship in Doha.

She is representing India at the Olympics but failed to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The dream was shattered, but it’s not over for her yet.

Sakshi Malik became a well-respected Indian sportswoman in 2021.

Mithali Raj

Mithali Dora Raj is an Indian Cricketer. She is the Test and ODI captain of the women’s national cricket team.

She is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket. She is the only woman to surpass the 7,000 run mark in Women’s One Day International matches.

Being a right-handed opening batswoman, she has made significant in the women’s cricket team. Apart from that, she is looked upon as one of the best Indian Sport women in 2021.

She was the recipient of the Wisden Leading Women Cricketer in the World in 2017.

She has received many awards and international recognitions, including Arjuna Award in 2003, the Padma Shri in 2015, and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021.

Mithali Raj is a face that people cheer on when she is in the field. She is one of the versatile and passionate Indian sportswomen.

Where sport was Indian Sportswomen a field dominated by men. They have been showered with praises and appreciation. Today, Indian sportswomen have confidently embarked on their name by winning medals and awards at the international level. They have proved that they are not inferior to anyone and will not stop anytime soon.
