Сведения.
Номер статьи 000098485.
Environment Product: OpenEdge Version: All supported versions OS: All supported platforms.
Question/Problem Description.
Steps to Reproduce enable auditing on a database: https://knowledgebase.progress.com/articles/Article/P123845.
add a security administrator to the database in the Data Administrator tool by going to Admin -> Security -> Security Administrators. -> Security Administrators.
add a different database user as audit admin user with grant privileges in the Data Administrator tool: Admin -> Security -> Edit Audit Permissions. -> Edit Audit Permissions (databaseName)
login as the new audit admin user to the Data Administrator tool and go to: Admin -> Security -> Edit Audit Permissions. -> Edit Audit Permissions (databaseName) the 'Grant' button is greyed out and therefore do not allow to create new audit users.
Clarifying Information.
A security administrator is defined in the database as can be seen by going to prowin databaseName -p _admin.p -1 Admin -> Security -> Security Administrators. -> Security Administrators.
The output of the SQL query: SELECT "_Grantee","_Role-name","_Grant-rights" FROM "PUB"."_sec-granted-role";
_Grantee _Role-name _Grant-rights auditor1 _sys.audit.admin true.
or the equivalent 4GL query:
FOR EACH _sec-granted-role: DISP _Grantee _Role-name _Grant-rights. END.
confirms that the user 'auditor1' should be able to grant audit rights to other database users.
Error Message.
Defect/Enhancement Number Defect OCTA-16562.
When a Security Administrator is defined in the database then the content of the columns _Can-Create _Can-Write, _Can-Delete, _File-Name from the table _File shows that on the tables:
only Security Administrator(s) can create, write or delete data in those 7 tables.
Since granting auditing permissions to another user requires writing that information to the table _sec-granted-role this explains why a database user having auditing grant rights cannot grant rights to another user if a Security Administrator is defined in the database. (when that user is not also a Security Administrator)
Resolution.
Use SQL statements such as:
grant audit_admin to someOtherDatabaseUser ; commit;
or give _Can-Create _Can-Write, _Can-Delete rights to the audit admin user on the following hidden tables _sec-granted-role _sec-granted-role-condition _sec-role in the Data Administrator tool by going to Admin -> Security -> Edit Data Security. -> Show Hidden.
or make the audit admin user a Security Administrator.
