Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro Upgrade - Protector Suite Issues.
I recently upgraded my Toshiba laptop from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro.
Protector Suite worked fine on 7 except for the boot security - the Fingerprint prompt didn't work and I had to enter the password each time - from within the OS, everything worked fine.
However, with Win 8, I have the opposite problem.
At boot up, I get the Fingerprint prompt and this works fine but once the operating system is loaded, Protector Suite fails to work - it used to run on startup but now doesn't. When I run the Control Centre from the Apps list it appears to load and the icon appears in the systray.
When I try to run it, all I get is an OS message saying that "Protector Suite has stopped working. Windows is collecting additional information".
I have been to the Protector Suite website and downloaded and installed the Win 8 compatible version and the updated drivers.
I did not uninstall the original as I was concerned at losing all of the accumulated data, settings and security records.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

From your issue description, I understand that “You are getting the error Protector Suite has stopped working. Windows is collecting additional information". Please let me know if you are not facing this issue.
Step 1: I would suggest you to boot the computer into safe mode and check if the issue persists.
Step 2: If the issue is fixed in safe mode, I would suggest you to perform clean boot and remove the program that is causing the issue.
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Note: Follow step 3 from the clean boot article KB929135 to reset the computer to normal mode.
Also I would suggest you to check with Authentec support for any known issues. https://support.authentec.com/Forum.aspx Hope this information is helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

Thanks for your response.
Step 1. The problem continues to exist in Safe Mode.
Step 2 Although the problem continued in Safe Mode, I have uninstalled Protector Suite 2012 rebooted and reinstalled. The Win 8 compatible version downloaded and installed following OS upgrade was ps_wbf5.9.7.7279-64bit.zip as recommended by Authentec. The problem continued to exist.
I visited the Authentec Support website again to download the Win 8 compatible alternate version ps_common5.9.8.7279-64bit.zip. and installed this. I am still experiencing the same issue.
The difference between the two versions I believe is WBF is compatible with Win 7 & 8 only. Common can be used with all OSs.
Step 3. I have tried the Authentec Support Forum which, from an unrelated post, lead me to check the Windows Biometric Service (WBS). The service is set to Auto but was not running. I selected Start and received the message "Windows could not start the WBS service on the local computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."
I checked the dependencies in the properties of WBS and found:
Credential Manager - RPC.
RPC - DCOM Server Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper.
Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework - User Mode Frameworks Platform Driver.
Everything listed except Credential Manager was running.
CM was disabled so I enabled and started CM and rebooted.
