Masdar and Taaleri launch a 51-MW onshore wind trio in Poland

Masdar, Abu Dhabi's renewable energy firm, and the Taaleri SolarWind II fund have jointly launched three onshore wind farms in Poland with a total capacity of 51.4 MW.

Masdar and Taaleri, an investment firm specializing in utility-scale wind and solar projects, both purchased 50% of the projects in January, marking their first foray into the Polish renewable energy sector.

The decision to invest in the local market was based on rising clean energy demand and the availability of the Contracts for Difference (CfD) program and commercial offtake contracts.

The 37.4-MW Mlawa wind park in Mazowieckie's northern province and the Grajewo project, which merges two 14-MW wind parks in Podlaskie in the country's north-east, are among the projects.

The three parks' combined electricity generation is equivalent to the annual use of 90,000 Polish families, saving 146,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Vestas designed the three facilities, while V-Ridium Power Services handled the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) as well as providing technical and commercial management.

The initiatives were financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), DNB Polska, and TFI PZU.

Masdar and Taaleri intend to expand their presence in Poland through Masdar Taaleri Generation, a joint company established in 2019 to build renewable energy projects in Central and South-Eastern Europe.

In collaboration with two local partners, the development vehicle is working on its first project in Greece, a 65-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility. The 158-MW Cibuk 1 wind farm in Serbia, as well as the development and building of the 200-MW Baynouna Solar Energy Project in Jordan, are among its current projects.
