While it's not difficult to find the right sleeve length for your shirt, it's a detail that many people overlook when wearing a suit. Maybe they just don't know how a suit should fit, but it's also possible they didn't know how to measure sleeve length, but tried it anyway after googling.

While this sounds a lot like your reality, we won't let you walk out with awkward sleeves. Read on to find the right size, whether you've actually measured it or not.
Before you learn how to measure sleeve length, you need to know a few things about reading dress shirt sizes.
The size tag on the dress shirt will contain 2-3 numbers. The first number - usually between 13 and 20 - is the neck size. These are usually round numbers, but some brands do offer dress shirts in half sizes.

The next number is the sleeve length, usually indicated by a dash when the size is more than one sleeve length (i.e. 32-33). Most brands offer dress shirts with sleeve lengths between 31-39.

Finally, you'll likely see "cut"—usually "fit" or "classic"—marked on a dress shirt size label.
Trying on dress shirts is an easy way to find your sleeve length and size, as long as you know how your dress should fit. Make sure you're wearing a lightweight t-shirt, and try on as many dress shirts as necessary until they fit. You may still want to visit a showroom or store (or do an at-home fitting), but no measurements are required.

Once you find the right size, write it down. Just remember to look for "Slim" or "Classic" on the size tag—if you get it wrong later, you'll notice the difference.
