Key Highlights from the Apple WWDC 2021 Event
The Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 by Apple was carried out digitally this year, with no physical gathering due to the ongoing pandemic. The virtual event was held on June 7 and was free for everyone to attend. With this event, the developers from around the globe got access to future versions of iPadOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS. They also got the chance to engage with engineers from Apple through labs and sessions.
At the Keynote, Apple announced the introduction of iOS 15, macOS Monterey, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, and watchOS 8. All these Operating Systems are loaded with exciting new features to help make the Apple ecosystem much more improved.

The new OS for iPhone comes with a host of exciting new features, important security fixes, and tweaks in the interface. Some important updates include FaceTime Links, addition of ID cards and keys in Wallet, Interactive Memories in Photos app, night mode in Apple Maps, Live Text, Notification Summary, better offline Siri support, and Focus.
iPadOS was recently split from iOS in 2019. The new iPadOS 15 is geared more towards making the user experience more suited for the larger screen of the iPad. App Library has been introduced on iPad, larger widget size for various apps like Photo, Files, and Find My. A new multi-tasking control menu has been added to allow faster switching between Slide Over and Split view. Swift Playgrounds allows users to code apps for iPad on the iPad itself.
Various new features have been added to the macOS such as Shortcuts, AirPlay, Spatial Audio Support, better Safari experience with tab management, as well as Universal Control. Universal control is quite cool as it enables you to drag and drop your files to share them across multiple devices.
watchOS 8 will offer a better Health experience including a new Mindfulness app that integrates with the Breathe app and suggest mindful concepts. Since Photos watch is extremely popular, the new Portrait watch face will allow a clock to be inserted between the background and foreground objects in photos taken on an iPad / iPhone. Feature Photos and Memories have also been added on the Photos app and sharing has been made much easier.
During WWDS 2021, no new hardware has been launched but few new features have been introduced that complement other products. New multi-window security camera have been added that can be paired with HomeKit enabled camera, screen sharing and watch together is now supported on tvOS. Spatial Audio is now compatible with AirPOds and Share Play has been upgraded as well.
Coversation Boost in AirPods will make it a lot easier for people who have problems with hearing to make better conversations by amplifying speech and reducing background noise. AirPods Max and Pro will also be compatible with Find My network.
The name of the paid iCloud plan has been changed to iCloud+ and few additional perks have been added including better security through encrypted browsing. Hide my Email feature provides unlimited temporary email addresses for use in mailing lists and newsletters.
