Morning Running: What You Should Be Wearing

Morning Running has been a part of my life for a while now. I used to run in the summer, in the fall and during spring, but like many, I used to stop when it got really cold. However, since I did the 24h’s Tremblant last year, winter became my favorite time of the year for running. Here’s why.

Personally, I love the outdoor atmosphere – wich seems to be calmer and more peaceful. Whether you’re in the city or the country, everything seems serene. For me, it’s a perfect blend between physical efforts and relaxation. To really enjoy it, however, you have to wear the appropriate clothing.

To begin with: good running shoes. I use the same in the summer and winter. Some people like to add an extra dose of traction with crampons, or simply go with shoes made specially for winter, like the Air Jordan 13 or Air Jordan 3 from Nike. I personally only used crampons once – when the conditions outside were absolutely terrible. The Adidas Ultra Boost and NMD are excellent options.

As for the insulation part, most runners prefer a shoe that breathes well VS a waterproof shoe. Here are the principal reasons: the snow won’t really get your shoes wet – and if it does, or if you have to go across some water-puddles – a great breathability will win over waterproofness, on the comfort side. The key is to wear good socks. The Ultra Boost will keep your feet warm – even when wet.
