Motivation and the Four Intrinsic Motivations

Motivation refers to a motivation for actions, willingness, and ascertained goals. Motivation comes from the Latin word inspiration, or a desire which requires gratification. These desires, wants or desires may be general, special or general. Sometimes people refer to this motivation for a specific action as achieving a target, whereas sometimes folks refer to some general desire as getting happy or successful.

Intrinsic motivation is stronger than extrinsic motivation. It's derived from basic human behaviors and drives which are under the control of the mind. Intrinsic motivation is exactly what human beings obviously display. Extrinsic motivation on the other hand is obtained from extrinsic sources including wages, salary, social standing, fame, fame, or other non-natural incentives.

Individuals's motivational behaviors vary tremendously. Some of us are highly motivated when they are given something significant to achieve, while other people are less inspired by this type of reward. Likewise some people are highly motivated by the realization they get from others, while others are driven by such recognition. And a few folks are less motivated by extrinsic motivators compared to others.

People today differ in their intrinsic and extrinsic motivators and in the quantity and intensity of the motivation. A person who gets a promotion at work is more inspired by his performance than by a monetary reward. Similarly, an individual who achieves financial liberty will be less driven by monetary rewards than by his performance before his peers. The differences in extrinsic motivators and intrinsic motivators are critical factors when folks choose professions.

Several of the most prosperous people in history all had distinct intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. Benjamin Franklin's motivation for learning the printing trade, for instance, was linked with his vision of becoming a printer. Henry Ford was linked to his enthusiasm for automobiles. And Thomas Edison was related to his vision of producing inventions that would alter the entire world motivation.

It's true that extrinsic motivation can create a challenging situation much easier to handle. When you are motivated by something which appears to be out of reach, it may seem easier to drive through the hard times and make progress. But, it's very important to realize when you reach a challenging goal that it is occasionally crucial to simply stop and take a deep breath and move on. You have to choose what your personal intrinsic motivation is. You can use the information you see in this article to assist you decide what that is.
