It is easy to develop poker skills and learn strategies if you play poker regularly. There are many variants of poker that you can play. The poker rules for most games are similar.

Dealing of Cards in Poker Games

Players are given hole cards and community cards to play poker. They use these cards to make a poker hand.

Variants in Poker

There are many variants in poker. Some of the variants are listed below.

Cards in Poker

There are two types of cards in poker. They are hole cards and community cards.

 

Hole cards

These are private cards. Only the players who are given the cards can see the hole cards.

Community cards

These are common cards. These cards are kept on the table for all the players. The community cards are not given at the start but in the later rounds.

Rounds

Poker players bet in the game. The betting is done to show the strength of cards. Two players add blinds to the table. The small blind and big blind are added to the table. The amount of the big blind is twice that of the small blind. The betting starts after the blinds.

Pre-Flop

The players see their cards and put money or poker chips on the table. This is known as betting in poker. The first amount added is called a bet. The poker players can call or raise the bet. Calling a bet means adding the same amount as the first player added. Raising the bet means adding more than the previous player.

Flop

The players get to see the community cards in this round. The first three community cards are shown to the players in the flop.

Turn

The players see the fourth community card in the turn. They can bet after seeing the fourth card.

River

The river poker round is the last betting round. Players see the fifth card in this round. Now all the players have the five community cards to make their poker hand. After the players make a poker hand of five cards, all the players show each other their poker hands in the showdown. The player who has the best poker hand wins.

Actions

The following actions can be taken in poker games.

 

Bet

The first amount that is added after the blinds are added is called a bet.

Call

Adding the same amount as the previous player is to call.

Raise

Adding more or double the bet added by the previous player is to call.

Check

Check is to refuse a bet. A player can check if no other player has added a bet.

Fold

Fold means to not play a hand in poker.
