What is Scottish tartan fabric?
Scottish tartan fabric is used as a Scottish Culture & Heritage, it’s a woven cloth tartan fabric is linked with Scottish culture and values, which is made with pre-dyed threads to form substitute stripes in one of several patterns of plaid – The more stripes and colors used, the more blurred and soft the tartan pattern becomes.

- Heavy Weight
Traditional kiltsare most popular in Medium Weight, but most traditional kilts usually are in Heavy Weight. With heavier fabrics, you gain greater durability, creasing, and swing, but it is literally a heavy garment. The heavier fabric is the best material to create Traditional kilt outfits, Bagpipes, and other fashion items.
- Medium Weight
Medium weight kilts give a good balance of warmth, crease-retention, durability, swing, and ease of wear. The medium-weight fabric is also used for kiltings such as – soft furnishings, curtains, cushions, and covers.
-Light Weight
If you live in a very hot climate, you might prefer a LightWeight fabric, like a TartanSkirt made from lightweight fabric. but is likely to need more regular pressing of the creasing at the rear, and may not swing quite so impressive when moving.

Different Shades Of Tartan Fabric

Royal Stewart Tartan
Royal stewart tartan can be worn by anyone and it is also the personal tartan of the current queen. Others who wear the Stewart tartan originally designed for Queen Victoria include the Scots Guard and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. This Tartan is also used by the clans & in festivals for bands.



Black Watch Tartan
Black Watch tartan was originally not to be worn by anyone aside from soldiers but this has changed in more modern times. The regiment was created as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881, when the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot (The Black Watch) was amalgamated with the 73rd Regiment of Foot to form two battalions of the newly named Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). The 42nd became the 1st Battalion, and the 73rd became the 2nd Battalion. As the Black Watch battalion started wearing the tartan back in the 1700’s it means that the black watch tartan has now been worn by the Scottish soldiers for nearly 300 years! Similar to the Royal Stewart tartan.



MacLeod of Lewis Tartan
Then Macleod of Lewis tartan is famously known as Loud MacLeod. It's one of the most instantly recognizable Scottish tartans, Clan MacLeod of The Lewes, commonly known as Clan MacLeod of Lewis. In Gaelic, the Macleods of Lewis was known as Sìol Thorcaill. The MacLeods are found on the Isle of Skye and all over the Inner & Outer Hebrides islands of Scotland, and into the western mainland of Scotland. But MacLeod of Lewis tartan has outgrown these origins to be universally recognized as one of the boldest fabric patterns in the world.

Lindsay Tartan
The Lindsay tartan is another that’s been commercially successful thanks to its sophisticated beauty and flexible styling. This tartan pattern makes your attire, getup more decent & elegant. Now you can enjoy your kilt, the Lindsay tartan has a place in countless hearts.


Dress Stewart tartan
Dress Stewart tartan can help you to be prepared to step out in style to any formal or informal event alike. This tartan features an off-white, creamy color taking over most of its pattern with just as much dark red coloring found throughout. Running through the red are bits of thin yellow lines for some accent. Dress Stewart is nowadays so widely used for commercial production that few wearers probably even reflect on its historic links with the Stewart clan.

Ramsay Tartan
Ramsay Tartan is light, the casual blue color is accented with dark grey and black lines that run both vertically and horizontally. Clan Ramsay's badge is Blue Harebell it’s the most popular of the tartans attributed to the surname Ramsay is derived from one titled Ramsey in the Vestiarium Scoticum published in 1842. Though the Vestiarium has been proven to be a Victorian-era hoax many clan tartans are derived from it. The Ramsays are an ancient family of Anglo-Norman origin. The name was first recorded in Scotland by Simon de Ramsay, who traveled north with the Earl of Huntingdon in 1124.
