Brown has been a member of Congress for nearly two decades, first in the House and then, since 2006, in the Senate. However, regardless of the prevailing ideological climate in his country or state, he steadfastly adheres to ideas that any progressive should applaud. In the House, he voted against the Defense of Marriage Act, opposed going to war in Iraq, and took the lead in opposing the younger Bush's Central American Free Trade Agreement.
