Smoking is indeed injurious to health. We at Poddar Group of Institutions provide several excellent programs such as BCA, MCA, B. Com, M. Com, B. A, M. A, B.Sc., M.Sc., D. Pharma, B.Ed., Management studies, Paramedical Science, Design, PhD, internships, training programs, courses, and diplomas. Some of the diseases caused by smoking are as follows:
Cancer: Smoking is the leading cause of various types of cancer, including lung cancer, throat cancer, mouth cancer, and pancreatic cancer. The harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke damage DNA and increase the risk of cancerous growth.
Respiratory Diseases: Smoking damages the lungs and airways, leading to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions. These diseases can cause difficulty breathing, coughing, wheezing, and reduced lung function.
Heart Disease: Smoking is a major risk factor for heart disease and cardiovascular problems. It can lead to the narrowing and hardening of arteries (atherosclerosis), increased blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular complications.
Reproductive Health Issues: Smoking can have detrimental effects on reproductive health, including reduced fertility, increased risk of miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and birth defects. It can also cause erectile dysfunction in men. Poddar International College provides the best infrastructure for all the students to study thoroughly.
Respiratory Infections: Smokers are more susceptible to respiratory infections such as pneumonia, influenza, and bronchitis. Smoking weakens the immune system and damages the protective lining of the respiratory tract, making it easier for pathogens to invade the body.
Premature Aging: Smoking accelerates the ageing process, leading to premature wrinkling of the skin, sagging, and dullness. The toxins in cigarette smoke can damage skin cells and collagen, resulting in premature ageing and an increased risk of skin cancer.
Second-hand Smoke: Not only is smoking harmful to the smoker, but it also poses risks to those exposed to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke contains many of the same toxic chemicals as firsthand smoke and can cause respiratory problems, heart disease, and cancer in nonsmokers.
Addiction: Nicotine, the addictive substance in tobacco, can lead to dependence and withdrawal symptoms when attempting to quit smoking. This addiction makes it challenging for individuals to quit smoking even when they are aware of the health risks.
Given these serious health consequences, quitting smoking and avoiding exposure to second-hand smoke are crucial steps towards improving overall health and reducing the risk of tobacco-related diseases. Educating students about the dangers of smoking is an important initiative that many educational institutions, like Poddar International College, may undertake. Poddar International College might raise awareness among students about the risks associated with smoking.
