After your oil tank is found to be leaking and its proven that the soil exceeds the clean up standards, the next step is to perform a soil remediation.
The first step that is taken by Simple Tank Services is scheduling the project with the disposal facility where the contaminated soil will be disposed of. Typically these projects can be scheduled within 5 business days depending on our schedule.
Once we arrive on site, our heavy equipment operator will excavate the clean overburden, usually the first five feet of soil, and place it to the side of the excavation for later use.
Once it is determined that we have reached the contaminated zone, we will start to live load the contamination onto a truck for disposal. As you can see in the picture, the contamination is very visibly discolored. It usually has a very distinct odor as well.
After our geologist determines that we have reached a clean zone, he will then grab six samples from around the excavation. One from each sidewall, one from the bottom, and one from the pipe run area.
Next, we will truck in certified clean fill from a local quarry to back fill the excavation. We will then top off the excavation with the clean overburden that was placed on the side of the excavation early on in the project.
After all the site work is completed, our geologist will prepare a remedial action report for the NJDEP to review. They NJDEP will send a No Further Action Letter once the report is reviewed.
