Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed in Medina. The number of verses is 26, the second and largest surah of the Qur'an. This surah starts from the first paragraph and ends in the eight pages of the third paragraph. As much as the basic principles, beliefs and rules of Islam have been described in detail in Surah Al-Baqarah, it has not been discussed in any other Surah.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he said: You shall not make your house a graveyard. Surely Satan flees from the house where Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: When Jibraeel (AS) was sitting with the Holy Prophet (SAW), he heard a voice from above. So he raised his head and said, This is a door to heaven, which has been opened today. Never opened before. Then an angel came down from there, then said, this angel has never come down to earth before today. The angel saluted and said, "Accept the good news of the two lights, which have not been given to any other prophet before you." One is the Book of Fatehatul Kitab and the other is the last verse of Surah Bakara.
