I love this kind of games but I couldnt get pass the clunkiness e.g. when I try to turn often I need to press the buttons many times before it works.. If your hard up for a Dungeon Masterish feeling you may like this. Keep these things in mind before buying. No resting. At least no way I have ever found. You need to just sit there and wait for health and mana to come back. Clunky combat and not balanced at all. A bat or rat can very easily wipe the whole party. And if you get more than one at a time or right after each other your screwed.. I came to this game because i loved ledgend of grimrock 1 and 2 but its just not as good, very poor combat, visuals, inventory and environmental interaction in comparison.. Good game so far, I like it.. Not DM, Not EOB, Not LOG. Pros: Looks Nice. The environment is dungeon like, while the walls are fairly nondescript and repetative they still crafted well enough to keep the atmosphere intact. The same can be said for the tiles, chains, torches and other asthetic adornments. The monsters are smooth, well articulated and rounded with an ounce of cuteness that gives a warm feel to the game, even when being gouged to death. Simple. I don't mean that in terms of depth but in ease of use, as in a few clicks and you are away. The character generation is neither bogged down in comnplex choices nor overly cumbersome. While I do enjoy character creation that is complex and deep, I don't feel it is necessary to the enjoyment of a game every time. Games like Wizardry 8 for example, while in this genre, would terrify someone not familiar with such games, whereas this one would not. Sometimes all that is needed to build a bond between you and your party are names that mean something or are fun. I went with 'Bob, Robert, Bobby Sue and Bobette.' Nostalgia. It's clear that the creator loves the genre and has had some experience of the classics. There are touches of many other games in here for both the more recent convert to the old school. As mentioned in another review the sound of the Amiga hard drive will make some chuckle and others scratch their heads. Cons: While there are many small things most of them nuances that vary from game to game and just take getting used to. The only real issue I had, and unfortunately it is a really big one, is the lag. There is a distinct lag in combat that means that you are unable to be as nimble as you can in other games. In fact even the original Dungeon Master, made three decades ago, allowed more freedom of movement. I found myself repeatedly hitting a direction key, while being attacked, but the party seemed unable to move. Had my computer been old or obselete I may have been able to pin it on that. but it is not. Also the fact that outside of combat I did not have the issue means that it is an integral problem. *UPDATE* Since writing this the Developer commented that the combat issue is by design. Once you have commited to cmbat you are bound for a certain time. While annoying it does get around the 'tricks,' in other games where you could simple walk around a monster and hit it repeatedly. All you needed was four squares. Because of this revelation I am going to change my review from not recommended to recommedned. Knowing that this is deleiberate, and more realistic, makes the game more enjoyable. Now I know that if I am not ready to fight, I need to run until I am. So there you have it. Pretty, nostalgic but very hard early on. This is definately for those that like a challenge.. a fun and challenging old-school rpg style game.. good game, good idea. could use more communication with the mechanics of the game, especially as they are used in puzzles. tip : to put something on a shelf, take it from your inventory by double-clicking, use "close" then click on where you want to put it. That mechanic got me locked until I looked it up. good game, not very long.. A few seconds after startup the game goes to a blue screen with a red cursor. Not like a BSOD, just. an uninteractive field of soft blue. Completely unplayable. I will be seeking a refund and I suggest not buying it. I can run games like Total War: Warhammer on ultra without a hitch, so this is clearly due to lack of proper testing. Edit: upon further testing from the dev and another customer, it was discovered that Malwarebytes and Windows Defender (and possibly other AV suites?) interfere with the game on some level. Adding an exception got it running nicely, and I can happily change this to a thumbs up now.. Finished the game and enjoyed it very much. A must for all Dungeon Masters and great value. Would have liked to see a health bar for monsters, so I can tell if I should run or hang in there during a difficult fight.. Wizardry it ain't! This plays very slowly on MacOS. Right around 30 fps. I can't imagine any reason that should be the case for standard labyrinth runner. Interface layout is very poor. The player must click individual character weapons to attack. The character portraits are laid out across the full breadth of the screen requiring broad cursor shifts. Click on target to attack is not supported. If the player inadvertenty click the character portrait the invetory pops up obscuring the action and it can only be closed by clicking the Close button. EscapeKey is not supported to exit menus, inventory or map. Weapons are poorly described and apparently even ranged weapons are limited to next space attacks. Monsters are obscured by an ugly magenta overlay. There is no damage feedback. There are few character portraits and neither class nor attributes are explained. The simple act of unlcking a door requires opening the nventory, double clicking a key, locating the hotspot on the lock and clicking it. This game is tedius. Hence it is boring. The images are colorful though Don't waste your dime.
