The principal requirements for packing are that it should:

1.Provide a large surface area: a high interfacial area between the gas and liquid.

2.Have an open structure: low resistance to gas flow.
Promote uniform liquid distribution on the packing surface.

3.Promote uniform vapor gas flow across the column cross-section.

.Various types and packing types have been developed to meet these requirements. Random packing and rescue packing elements are more commonly used in the process industry.

Structured Packing
Structured packaging is characterized by highly effective technology and diverse applications. The packing provides high separation efficiency, good wettability, and low-pressure drop. They can solve functional problems with distillation, absorption or solvent extraction.

Random Packings
A wide variety of random packingis used with the pavement. The most commonly used random packing is Pall Rings, Berl Saddles, Intalox Saddles, Raschig Rings, Tellerettes, Hypac and so on.
