We got the opportunity to speak with Daybreak president Ruben Smedley about the new masters

The other day, H1Z1 developer Daybreak Online game Company, the studio earlier known as known as Sony Online Enjoyment, revealed its new brand and branding-three months after getting purchased by private equity organization Columbus Nova. We got the opportunity to speak with Daybreak president Ruben Smedley about the new masters, what the shift means for their very own games, and what separating coming from Sony does for them.

Bob Smedley: There was really only 1 thing, and ironically that you thing was something that we'd not only telegraphed since September of last year but have been explicitly talking openly concerning in every interview we performed, which was airdrops. I think we all miscalculated where we considered the line was for pay-to-win and where our consumers thought it was. It really was that easy. They told us inside no uncertain terms they thought we crossed the road and Cheap H1z1 skins, and we literally just guaranteed away from it immediately as well as the launch could not have gone better from our perspective. There is just the one day worth regarding outcry about that, it just been on launch day.

Many of us just backed away from that and it’s been hanging around ever since, relatively speaking. Most of us always manage to do products and then it pisses these off, but you’ve have to try things. Look at the Control device mod payment thing, as an example; it’s a great example of-of course they’re smart regarding doing that. Modders having paid is an awesome thought and I wish they’d adhere to their guns, but at times you think you have a solid program and it gets in front of the participants and they’re like, “Yeah, we don’t like this, ” so it changes.

From the perspective, being able to listen and change the course of what we will doing in reaction to individuals that pay the bills-our players-that’s a positive as far as we are concerned. The reality is, I like working with companies that listen to all their players. I’m proud to state we’re one of those companies. I do believe we do a good job of the, but sometimes you put concepts out and they don’t perform. We’re not going to alter that, we’ll still try it out.
