What are Battery Technology and its Type?


There are two main types of battery technology: primary, which is the current type of battery; and secondary, which is rechargeable. Primary batteries are made up of one or more zinc-carbon electrodes that are glued to an alkaline electrolyte paste at the center. They contain no active ingredients and must be charged before use. There are three main ways to charge a primary battery: using a charger that plugs into a wall socket (the most common), using an adapter that connects directly to the battery’s terminals (less common), or charging by connecting it directly to another device such as a flashlight or radio receiver (rare).
Secondary batteries use any type of active material other than zinc-carbon as its cathode or negative electrode. It also has an alkaline electrolyte paste which contains manganese dioxide and other metals such as iron or nickel oxide. Secondary batteries come in many shapes, sizes, voltages, capacities and applications; however, the most common types include alkaline dry cells (AA, AAA), lithium polymer (LR03), NiMH rechargeable batteries.
