The Attorney General is New York's chief legal officer. There are many additional functions these attorneys-general perform. Among these main posts of interest to lawyers who practice in any of the different states, and aren't restricted to practicing within their respective jurisdictions simply, are: Assessing prisons and youth centres, analyzing insanity pleas, examining guardianship and care of small children, and examining records maintained by the Department of Social Development.
