According to PeopleCert COBIT 5 is defined as “a globally accepted framework for the governance and management of IT. It aligns business goals to IT processes and goals, providing tools, resources and guidance to achieve, identify and associate responsibilities of business and IT processes.”

The acronym COBIT stands for Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology. It is a framework designed by ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) to help businesses apply IT governance and management.

The core of designing COBIT is to fill the gap between control requirements, business risks and technical issues. It is a great tool for managers, IT professionals and business executives to ensure and control quality and reliability of information system in the organization.

ISACA has designed many versions of COBIT in order to keep up with the latest and changing needs of IT governance. They designed 5 COBIT versions the latest of which is COBIT 5.
