A dental extraction is also known as tooth extraction, exodontia etc. it is the process of pulling of the teeth out of the dental alveolus present in the dental bone. Tooth extraction can be carried out for many reasons such as tooth decay, dental trauma etc. it is usually associated with a toothache. Sometimes wisdom teeth which is stuck and unable to grow cause recurrent gum infections which can be treated by many methods if antibiotics, cleaning etc has failed. Many times, a healthy tooth can be extracted to create space which have crowded the spoiled teeth.
TYPES OF TOOTH EXTRACTION
There are two types of tooth extraction-: simple and surgical
• SIMPLE EXTRACTIONS- these are performed on the teeth that are visible in the mouth by keeping the patient under local anaesthetic. This process involves the use of instruments to elevate or hold the visible portion of the tooth. The tooth is lifted using an elevator and dental forceps and few movements are done such as moving the tooth back and forth and enlarging the tooth socket. Once the periodontal ligament is broken and the alveolar bone is widened, the tooth can be removed. The process is carried out gently by applying controlled force at steady pressure.
• SURGICAL EXTRACTIONS- this type of extractions is done when the teeth cannot be easily accessed and is not visible, either they have broken under the gum or have not erupted fully. This process almost in all cases requires an incision. There may be certain risks after any extraction such as pain, swelling, bleeding etc. but such risks are manageable.
Find a dentist according to your location, for example search in google if you are resident of North Carolina, search “TOOTH EXTRACTION RALEIGH NC”.
TIP
