Why are AT&T and Verizon delaying 5G near airports in the United States?

To avoid a possible aviation disaster caused by new 5G technology, US phone companies AT&T and Verizon agreed on Tuesday to suspend turning on some cellular antennas near important airport runways for the time being.
AT&T and Verizon will both debut new C-Band 5G wireless service on Wednesday, but they have agreed to postpone some rollout near airports, which had threatened to cause multiple flight cancellations.
Major airline CEOs contacted the Biden administration on Monday, pleading with it to interfere in AT&T and Verizon's planned introduction of 5G technology on Wednesday, warning of "catastrophic" consequences if it went through.
"Unless our key hubs are permitted to fly, the great majority of travelers and shippers would be effectively stranded."
