Start Your Trip Right With An RV Leveling System

When it comes to taking your RV out for a trip, the feeling when you finally arrive at your campsite often feels like the beginning of the real vacation. Being able to get outside and stretch your limbs, combined with the fact that the drive is now over, can be a pretty amazing feeling. Before you can really start to enjoy all the wonderful experience that comes with a camping trip, it’s time to deploy your RV Leveling System. A level RV will not only make being inside your RV easier, but it can also help prevent damage to your RV and your appliances.

The fact is that your RV wants to be level. When RVs are designed, the intent is that they will spend more of their time on level surfaces. Some appliances, most notably refrigerators, may even require a level surface to function properly. Being off level can also put undue strain on certain parts of your RV, including the door frames and tires. This does not mean your RV can not survive periods of being off level. Whenever you are driving, there will be periods of time when your RV will be at an angle with no ill effect. Long periods of sitting on surfaces while being off level will inevitably create issues.

Luckily, the process of using an RV leveling system can be a relatively simple one. You do not need to be mechanically inclined in order to get your RV perfectly level every time. The best way to start this process is to park on the most level surface possible and ensure that you are on solid ground. Once you have parked, you will want to begin leveling.

If you have a 5th wheel style trailer, you will want to level side to side before leveling front to back. For drivable RVs, you can start leveling all of the sides together. The process of leveling your RV involves using a bubble level along with wheel chocks, leveling blocks, and stabilizing jacks. These jacks are not designed to hold the full weight of your RV like a car jack, they are just meant to offer some solid footing.

Once you secure your wheels, you can use leveling blocks to get your trailer nice and level. After this step is complete, you can use your stabilizing jacks to add extra security. These jacks will prevent any movement from causing your RV to shake or shift. There are also some automatic leveling systems that will deploy your jacks automatically and ensure you are on solid footing. If the ground beneath your RV is soft, adding stable pieces of wood or other pads can help increase the performance of your jacks.
