How to install old Cigraph's Plug-ins protected with the Registration >
Terminology.
Before explaining the procedure for generating serial numbers for Cigraph plug-ins in detail, below is an explanation of some of the terms which will be used subsequently and form the basis for our entire software protection system.
Registration ID The Registration ID is a 13 digit code assigned to each plug-in sold. At the time of purchase, you will receive one for each package bought. It identifies the sale and is of extreme importance (equal to that of your ArchiCAD hardware protection).
Important: this Registration ID is your investment in the Cigraph plug-in. Take good care of it as you would any other company asset. If lost, a Registration ID cannot be replaced.
ArchiCAD key serial number Each hardware key released with ArchiCAD incorporates a unique serial number (which may not always coincide with the number written on the label attached to the key). This serial number is automatically read by the plug-in and displayed in the serial number window. Important: the plug-in reads and proposes the serial number of the hardware key used by the ArchiCAD programme with which the plug-in is currently being used. Please take particular care with this number as the unlock code you will be given (see below) will enable you to use the plug-in with this hardware key only.
Unlock code The unlock code enables you to use the plug-in, which without the code will function only in demo mode with a limited number of commands per ArchiCAD work session and for a limited period of time. Important: it is associated with the ArchiCAD hardware key used. Your plug-in will function only with this code using this hardware key.
Additional network licence ArchiCAD also has network hardware keys enabling the programme to be used on a number of computers at the same time. Network keys may include a number of programme licences. When you buy a Cigraph plug-in, you buy ONE licence. If you want authorisation to use the plug-in on a number of computers simultaneously (using the same ArchiCAD network key), you must buy additional licences. In this case, when you buy additional licences, you will not be given additional registration IDs, but simple certificates of authorisation to use the software simultaneously on a number of work stations (using the same ArchiCAD network key).
Installing on other computers If you want to use the plug-in you have bought on a computer other than that for which the plug-in serial number was originally generated:
connect the ArchiCAD key used to generate the plug-in serial number to the computer; launch ArchiCAD, then launch the plug-in; click on the Serialization button in the serialization dialog box; enter the unlock code in the editable text field in the dialog box displayed; click on the Serialization button.
In this case, you do not need to be connected to Internet as you can use the same unlock code you were given the first time.
Managing multiple unlock codes Supposing you have two computers, computer "A" and computer "B" and that you use the same ArchiCAD licence on both computers (hardware key "A" and hardware key "B"). You purchase two installations of ArchiForma from Cigraph (or of any other Cigraph plug-in) and receive two Registration IDs.
You generate the first ArchiForma serial number on computer "A" using the "A" ArchiCAD hardware key. You generate the second ArchiForma serial number on computer "B" using the "B" ArchiCAD hardware key.
Obviously you will not have a problem if you do not move the hardware keys from one computer to another. But what happens if you exchange the two keys (using hardware key "B" on computer "A" and vice versa)? The first time you launch the plug-in on computer "A" using hardware key "B", you must re-enter the unlock code obtained for hardware key "B". The first time you launch the plug-in on computer "B" using hardware key "A", you must re-enter the unlock code obtained for hardware key "A".
At this point, the protection system will have memorised both unlock codes and from now on you can use either key without difficulty and without having to generate another serial number for the software.
Replacing your ArchiCAD hardware key You may have to replace your ArchiCAD hardware key because it is damaged, you have updated your ArchiCAD from a very old version or for some other reason. As explained above, the unlock code in your possession is associated with the ArchiCAD hardware key used. Your plug-in will function only with this code using this hardware key. If the hardware key is replaced, your unlock code will therefore no longer be valid and you will not be able to use your plug-in with the new key. The solution is simple:
send an e-mail to [email protected] explaining that your hardware key has been replaced and including your registration ID (or IDs if you have generated serial numbers for a number of plug-ins using the key which has been replaced); ask your ArchiCAD Distributor to send a certificate of replacement of the key to [email protected] ; within 48 working hours, you will receive an e-mail confirming that your Registration ID has been reset and can be used again to obtain a new unlock code compatible with the new ArchiCAD hardware key.
Information on the serial numbers generated on the computer To simplify management of the serial numbers generated on a given computer and verify at any time what ArchiCAD hardware key is associated with a given unlock code, each plug-in includes the Info. command in its menu. This command opens a dialog box where you can check all the serial numbers generated on the computer currently in use:
The name of the add-on you are visualising the information from (for example, ArchiWall 2.0 for ArchiCAD 9) appears at the top. Immediately below, two pop-up menus provide information on the serial numbers generated (there could be one or more). The first pop-up menu shows the unlock code obtained while the second shows the ArchiCAD hardware key associated with that unlock code (only the last five numbers of the serial number are given). The two numbers are obviously strictly connected: If more than one serial numbers has been generated, select a field from one of the two pop-up menus to view the updated information in the other pop-up menu. You will always see the unlock code associated with the hardware key displayed below and vice versa.
