Realtek ac 97 vista driver download.
Over a year later and still the Realtek AC'97 ALC250 sound chip is not supported in Vista. Real bad of Microsoft.
It is disappointing for sure.
I had held off on updating this old computer (Gateway Profile 5) until SP1 was known stable, and was unhappy to find that I have no sound using any driver I found.
Guess I will have to use some type of external sound card for this old thing. Probably cost more than the computer is worth.

Ok to all that are working on this issue I beat my head against the wall for a day or so before getting the 'AC 97 causes problems with vista' message.
Vista ultimate upgrade had been working fine until I started to get BSOD's constantly and finally the previously mentioned message.
1>I simply disabled the onboard audio in bios.
2>bought a usb soundcard on ebay it was less than $20 dollars and takes fiber-optic audio 7.1; so what the heck right :)
3>disabled ac 97 audio in the control panel>audio devices (device manager)
4>rebooted and since it worked fine(no more BSOD) I just waited for the usb soundcard >3 days max.
5>it arrived today and it didnt like vista. but changing its setup.exe to xp sp2 compatible with administrator under the compatibility TAB had me working in less than 5 minutes.
no more BSOD lol.
good luck now we have windows 7 to deal with. ughhhhh.

AWRDACPI is a very old motherboard manufacturer but driver works well with it. I had same problem .my sound used to be very low.and i could hardly hear it Previously it was working fine on XP. I tried everything.
But seriously i gave a little shake two both speakers on the hard surface of the table. With just one shakes to both the speakers. instantly sound came back.
Please Try this thing. sometimes problem is with hardware but we serach for the software until we are tired tired and tired.
