Johnny Depp has always been a showman, and he does it fine, but with a little of Michael Mann's help, he gave the best performance of his career as John Dillinger, not even Tim Burton could do that. That makes Public Enemies the film where Mann best develops his characters and plot, specially in Film Noir, where characters have to be as good as they are evil. Speaking on Film Noir, the 30s atmosphere giving tribute to James Cagney and Clark Gable films is enjoyable. In resume, it's Michael Mann's best film.
