The iOS 14’s security feature has made people aware of a bug in Instagram, where Instagram’s camera was caught in use even when users were not using it actively. Instagram has addressed the issue saying that they are trying to fix it. This discovery is just another example of the capabilities of the new security features of iOS 14 is. This new security feature that is available with the beta release of iOS 14 is making users more aware of the information collected by different apps and also keeping a record of all the permissions granted to an app.

iOS 14 has provided an indicator that sends an alert at the top of the screen if the camera and microphone are found in use. Using the same indicator, it made users aware of the bug on Instagram. iOS 14 has also improved the security of its users by controlling tracking. It has tried to put a limit on the tracking of the user’s app activity and the app needs more permissions before it can track its user’s activity. Before this bug on Instagram, iOS 14’s security feature had also alerted users about the fact that certain apps had access to their clipboard. The clipboard is used to copy and paste information from one app to another and at times it can contain sensitive information like your passwords or banking card details. Clearly, the security breach was alarming.

Though iOS 14 is still in its beta stage, looking at its features, it can be said that the company is paying attention to the security and privacy of its users more than ever. At the same time, it is also alarming that reputed social media websites are accessing user’s private information without permission. Casually scrolling through these apps is a common habit for many people and users need to be assured that their private information is secure. It contains lots of sensitive data from the private lives of millions of people as they are using these platforms to stay in touch with their family and friends and also to express their creativity and political views. It is a good sign that Apple has provided much sharper security features in iOS 14. The way they are encouraging people to test their security features through various programs, it can be said that the company is very serious about the security of iOS 14.
