Study Shows Motorists May Not Have Fitted The Latest Security Measures To Keep Their Car Safe

You would think it would go without saying or be standard in most models, but you will be mistaken.

It turns out millions of motorists across the UK may be leaving their vehicles unprotected as they have not fitted security measures which could prevent their cars from being stolen. A decision which could be even more costly at this time of year, which often sees a spike in car crime, as thieves try to capitalise on the festive season.

This can be a crunch time for car security, where it is estimated more than five million vehicles are in danger of being stolen. Especially after around 14% of drivers concede they have not installed safety tools in their cars to stave off thieves.

A recent analysis report revealed two-fifths of drivers have not had a conventional car alarm fitted, while only less than 40% use a built-in steering lock to protect their car.

Motor enthusiasts may be surprised to learn more than four-fifths of drivers have not fitted a GPS tracker in their car, while 90% say they do not use wheel clamps.

It appears motorists may not be quick to use the newest gadgets, developed to prevent criminals from driving away with their car. Reports also say less than one in ten are not utilising the cutting edge Faraday Pouch, designed to stop keyless car thieves from gaining entry to their car.

The ever-growing problem has extended to all four corners of the UK. For instance, according to the Office for National Statistics, the rate of car thefts in England and Wales has grown by almost 30% since 2015.

It is said motorists in Scotland are most at risk, where an estimated one-fifth have not fitted their cars with the safety tools they need to protect them.

Car experts say, as well as trying the latest discoveries, there are more everyday steps drivers can take, to make it harder for crooks to steal their vehicle. They recommended being careful where they park, choosing well-lit areas. Particularly as one in five car thefts take place in public parking bays, while almost 20% are stolen from right outside the home.

Fortunately, there are still measures you can take. From making sure your vehicle is double-locked, to safeguarding your car keys and using a Faraday pouch to block the electronic signal. Stopping it from being scanned by car thieves, alongside other precautions.

Many believe the first step is to install the latest security tools, although some motorists have either not got around to it or chosen not to. However, it could still be the secret to keeping your car safe and outfoxing the car thieves. Especially in the run-up to Christmas.
