Getting a PayPal Account For Online Shopping

If you are new to Internet shopping, it may be a good idea to consider signing up for PayPal. PayPal is the leading online payment system, and is serving over 153 million users and 190 market worldwide. PayPal also provides 100% user protection against fraud or unauthorized payments, so you can be sure that your money is safe. In this step-by-step walk through, I will show you the process of signing up for and setting up a PayPal account.

Most Internet businesses today accept PayPal payments: Dell Computers, American Eagle Outfitters and La Senza lingerie are just a few examples of the big name companies that accept PayPal. With a PayPal account, you can buy from many different vendors without having to give each of them your payment information separately, thus greatly reducing the chance of encountering fraudulent businesses.

*Note that PayPal is constantly improving their application flow so what you see during your sign up process could be a little bit varied

Browse to http://www.paypal.com and click Sign Up
Choose your country and language, and select your desired account type. A Personal account is good enough to start, since you can always upgrade your account later if necessary. You do not need to worry about upgrading to a premier account unless you are constantly selling online
Next fill in the PayPal application form, then click Agree and Create Account. Note that any information entered here will be submitted using secure encryption (HTTPS) and will be protected
Next you need to choose a method to fund your PayPal account. You could simply use a credit card, but if you want to fully verify your PayPal account, you may want to use your bank account. When you verify with a bank account, PayPal makes a small deposit into your bank account, and you will use that number to prove that you are the holder of the bank account
PayPal will send you an activation email, where there will be an activation link. Click the activation link to activate your new PayPal account. If you do not see this email, make sure you check your junk mail folder
After performing the above steps your PayPal account is good to go. When you shop using your PayPal account, you can either first transfer some money to your PayPal account and pay using your account balance, or simply let PayPal charge directly to your credit card or bank account.
