What Should be the Preparation Strategy for IAS?

Once you have decided to take the Civil Services IAS Exam, the next step is to devise a strategy to crack the exam. Though it requires a lot of hard work and long hours of study, you still need some strategies to solve the questions smartly and save time.

Are you sure about your goal and have decided to attempt the Civil Services IAS Exam?

Now the next thing is to start preparing for the exam to get the top ranking. Before you start preparing for the exam, you must understand the services to take the efforts in the right direction. Apart from in-depth understanding of various subjects, candidates must have a thorough understanding of services in order to crack successfully.

What is Civil Services Preliminary Examination?

It is an exam conducted by UPCS with two papers on General Studies. The first part of the paper is a two-hour examination in which students must answer 100 questions of 2 marks each. The thing to remember here is that there is a negative marking of 0.66 marks for each wrong answer. So, students need to be very careful while attempting every question.

syllabus:

It is one of the most searched words for civil services exam. Paper I on General Studies is designed in approximately seven sections:

  • History of Indian and Indian National Movement
  • Indian Politics and Governance
  • economic and social development
  • Indian and World Geography
  • environmental ecology
  • Biodiversity and Climate Change
  • General Knowledge and Current Events

Although there is not much information about the subjects that the aspirants can study for each section, it is estimated to be up to the graduation level in a variety of subjects. As graduate students of various streams can apply for the exam, the required knowledge level is graduation level only.

Preparation Strategy:

This is the most important requirement for civil services exam preparation. Though most of the students prefer to take admission in IAS Coaching in Indore to get expert tips, some students try to prepare themselves with limited time.

It is important to look at the question pattern from the years before making a strategy. And as per the in-depth analysis of the questions asked in the previous exams, the candidates cannot make it through by focusing only on the NCERT text books. To handle difficult questions based on basic principles and their correct application, one needs in-depth knowledge, which is impossible from text books.

In order to have factual information and solve questions on current affairs, students need to keep themselves updated with the latest happenings around them. The questions in different sections are different every year, so you cannot plan to focus more or less on any topic. The teachers of the institutes that provide Civil Services preparation guidance can help you in dealing with this problem, as they have a thorough knowledge of the exam pattern over the years.

You must work with an integrated approach to understand the basic principles and their application in daily life. NCERT books are undoubtedly important to gain basic understanding, but you need not depend on these books only. You can use General Studies books to understand and apply various concepts in depth. Also make sure that you read the newspaper daily for at least 45 minutes to stay updated with the current scenario outside.

Finally is time management. Devote equal time to each question and don't stick to one question if it is time consuming. Leave it for last and move on to the next question. You can attempt mock tests to check the necessary improvements in time management.
