What is a Thermoplastic Splint and How do they Work?

Keywords: Thermoplastic splint, allfit dental cast

A thermoplastic splint is a device used by dentists to immobilize teeth for orthodontic treatment. This material, named as Allfit Dental cast, is heated and softened in water before it's fitted to the tooth and allowed to harden.

The term "splint" is derived from the Latin word "spondere" which means "to bind." It can be made out of different materials such as metal, wood, plaster, fiberglass, plastic, and thermoplastic.
