Like Playing Darts? Chances Are You’ll Love Axe Throwing!

Darts is a popular and fun game for folks of all ages, and if you’re a darts player, then there’s a strong chance that you’ll be equally as enamored with axe throwing. While a dart couldn’t be less like an axe, the principles of throwing something potentially lethal at a target (albeit slightly less lethal in the case of darts!), remain the same, and both sports are best played with friends or work colleagues.

Never heard of axe throwing before?

What are the origins of axe throwing as a sport?

As quite possibly one of the oldest sports in existence, axe throwing has developed over the years to gain intense popularity, and nowadays, urban axe throwing in the US and Canada is booming as a pastime.

Where can you throw an axe safely?

Axe throwing venues have sprung up all over the country, and a simple Google search will find one (or more) in your locality. Typically housed in large buildings (which may or may not offer other sports, too), axe throwing venues are safe spaces with axe throwing supervisors on hand to keep a close eye on competitors and make sure everyone is safe at all times.

Wooden targets are set up throughout the venue, in lanes, and throwers take aim at the target to earn points according to where the axe lands.

There are even mobile axe throwing venues that bring all the fun and excitement of the venue, right to your doorstep, wherever that may be!

How do you score points?

Strike the bullseye with your axe and you get five points, while the circle surrounding the bullseye will give you three points, and the outer circle, one.

Every target also has a set of two green dots above the circles, known as ‘clutch, and each axe thrower must state that they’re aiming for clutch before they go ahead and try to hit it. Also, you are only permitted to go for clutch on your last five throws of each of the three rounds, and the axe blade must land in between the dots to earn you seven points.

For anyone new to axe throwing, a score of 25 is a reasonable goal to strive for, and as you learn new techniques and become more confident, you can score higher and aim bigger! A perfect score is 81, and only those who are axe throwing aficionados can expect to reach this.

Bored of darts and searching for a more thrilling, heavy duty target sport? If so, you might just find that axe throwing ticks all the boxes, and if you’re also looking for the perfect activity to liven up a birthday, divorce or anniversary party, axe throwing will more than meet the criteria.

Mobile axe throwing is a fun and exhilarating way to vent anger, release pent up frustration or simply enjoy from a competitive angle. No party can ever be dull with the addition of a mobile axe throwing unit, and at Axe House, we can help you transform any social event into one that every attendee will remember (and maybe even fantasize about for years to come!). Forget boring, traditional party games and keep the fun vibes going with an axe throwing contest hosted by our expert axe-wielding team.
