Places To Visit in Lucknow | Connecting Traveller

The capital city of Uttar Pradesh and one of the largest cities of northern India, Lucknow, is also called the city of Nawabs. Lucknow is a city with a diverse architectural heritage extending from the 17th to the 18th centuries. In the centre of the city there is an epitome of mughal architecture — a Mughal Gateway, Rumi Darwaza. In the neighbourhood, there is Bara Imambara having Bhool Bhulaiya tunnels on the upper floor which are a marvel in and of themselves. The great Victorian Husainabad Clock Tower, a historical landmark of the city, is also close by. Shopping and Eateries is a part of a trip where the journey is incomplete without a perfect picture on an epic destination and an adventurous exploration. Here are a handful of the city’s mesmerising sights you cannot overlook

1. Dilkusha Kothi

Constructed in English baroque style, Dilkusha Kothi is a masterpiece in the Cantonment area of Lucknow. It represents both British and Indian art forms from the past. This 18th century house is the remains of the history that now welcomes tourists from around the world. This was said to be the hunting house for Nawabs originally, which was later converted into the royal summer mansion. Dilkusha Kothi welcomes tourists almost everyday from 8 AM to 7 PM, however it is advisable to confirm the visiting hours prior to your visit.

2. Bara Imambara

After the Nizamat Imambara, Bara imambara is considered as the second largest in terms of area coverage. This is an extremely popular destination in the city due to its beautiful architectural setup and the maze or the bhool bhulaiya in the upper floor of the building. It is said that there are more than 1000 ways to enter the maze and only 2 ways to exit out of it. The aura of this place appeals to tourists in several unexplained ways. After the Victorian Husainabad Clock Tower, Bada Imambara is another iconic landmark of the city. There are several stories of Lucknowi Tehzeeb associated with this place that you can explore on your visit.

3. Amrapali Water Park

The water park is a place to splash and have fun in water regardless of the age group. It’s a wonderful destination to relax and enjoy the music in the water with friends and family. Amrapali Water Park has its own resort, so if you are willing to have some extra special fun time, you can book yourself a room as well. Apart from this, the park also offers exciting activities that don’t include playing in water like Camel rides and more. The large number of amazing slides in the park promises to deliver the thrill of the day.

4. Lucknow Zoo (Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden)

Kids love animals, Grown-ups love when kids have fun and the memories from childhood. To reminisce the good memories, the Zoo/ Zoological Park is an ultimate choice to explore the wildlife amidst the busy city. There are more than 463 mammals, 298 birds, and 72 reptiles representing 97 species in the garden for a complete adventurous experience. The zoo is a home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, White Bengal Tiger, Blackbuck, Indian Rhinoceros, Asiatic Lion, Asiatic Elephant Grey Wolf, Hoolock Gibbon, Zebra and more. The zoo remains closed every monday and you can book your entry tickets till 5 PM every other day.

5. British Residency

Well, we are extremely familiar with Nawabi style by now, so it comes to no surprise that the British Residency was once the residing place of a British general who was a representative in the court of the Nawab. The place is often known as The Residency or Residency Complex. This 17th century architecture, a century later, was subject to the Siege of Lucknow as a part of the Indian Rebellion. Now this place is the remains of history and open to the public every other day of the week except for Monday. Tourists have to pay a small entry fee before entering the premises but it’s worth it.
