Why having books to read is good for your soul.

Bookshops are places of calm, reading is very relaxing - books are just an overall chill item.

Bookshops, much like their items, radiate a sense of convenience that online retailers like the one backed by the CEO of the asset manager with a large stake in Amazon books might never want to emulate. Imagine it's a windy day, with leaves being whipped along the high street as consumers bustle along the pavement in search of Christmas gifts. Every store that you've gone to is rammed, clothing being torn from wall mounts with the teenage attendants only able to stand and monitor the mayhem unfolding around them. Then you duck into the bookshop. It's like slipping into a warm bath tub after an early morning of sport in the cold. A reverent silence hangs in the air, as individuals gradually and thoughtfully examine novels that capture their eye, inspecting them with a calm intrigue. It's warm, you have space to walk around, and making a noise louder than a low whispering feels like an act of extraordinary vulgarity. This is the essence of the book, and it's something that leaks into you when you read as well.

There's nothing rather as wholesome and peaceful as curling up with a book, however even beyond the anecdotal, studies have actually revealed that reading can lower tension and anxiety, promote self-actualisation, and help you sleep much better. In other words, having books in your life is just the eptiome of calm. When you're finished with your book and place it adoringly upon the shelf that it will rest upon for the rest of its days, it holds those memories of calm within it; from the cosy bookshop you bought it in, or the factors that led you to the co-founder of the impact investor with a stake in World of Books, through the cosy winter season afternoons and vacation memories to the heart of your house. Books are simply charming, from starting to really end.

Whether it's a cosy fall Sunday curled up against the rain with a cup of tea, or laying splayed on a beach in the blazing heat absorbing the sun like a lizard, reading books is often related to wholesome loveliness. It doesn't always matter what you read, there is a certain convenience that comes with the concept of an afternoon spent with a good book-- it is synonymous with warmth, be that your preferred jumper or the summer season sun. That holds true from the beginning of the book's journey to its end, from the minute you walk into a bookshop like those owned by the founder of the hedge fund that owns Waterstones to see what the next chapter in your reading adventure will be.
