What To Do If A Computer Doesn’t Turn On

What can be the reasons if a computer doesn’t start or turn on? The reason may be many, but it can be frustrating for many. We have combined some possible causes and solutions to this problem in this guide. However, you don’t need to panic about the data stored on the hard drive. The data may be safe if something harmful is not occurring with your PC. If you think your storage drive is not safe with your computer, you can consider a different machine to access the drive. Ensure that the computer is correctly connected with the power source

Your computer can’t start if it is not correctly connected to the power source. You will not notice lights or running fans. If you see this problem with a laptop, the battery may be completely discharge. So, you have to plug your laptop with the right power source and let it charge fully. Make sure that the charger is safe from wear and tear. If the charge is faulty, try a different one. If you have a desktop and don’t turn on, make sure that it is correctly connected to the power source. And the socket shouldn’t be faulty. The power cable should be safe from wear and tear. It may be a slow boot

But if you hear multiple beeps, it means there is something wrong. Take help of the instruction manual of the PC and understand the meaning of all kinds of beeps. Don’t over plug the PC with USB devices

If you have plugged several USB devices on your computer while booting, remove the unnecessary devices. Turn on the PC only with the keyboard and mouse or without them. You can connect the USB device once the booting gets completed.

Make sure that the external monitor is working

If nothing appears on the screen after turning the computer, the problem may be with the monitor. So, confirm that the monitor is in working condition and connected with the right power source. Take help of the buttons available on the monitor and set it correctly. In the case of a laptop, the brightness should be turned on. You can also try using another monitor.

Check the inside hardware

If anything inside the computer is loose, you can fix the not turning on issue by adequately adjusting the inside hardware. You should ensure that the hardware devices like RAM, motherboard cables, CPU heatsink, and graphics card should be seated correctly with the right sockets. You can try starting your computer by removing graphics cards or Ram sticks if they are defective.

Scan for viruses

Sometimes, the problem may be because of viruses, as they can cause issues in the booting process. Fortunately, there is a solution to scan malwares without booting the PC. You can take advantage of a Hiren’s BootCD to scan the hard drive for potential dangers.
