In academic writing, repetition of ideas, words, or phrases can bring monotony and make the writing redundant. There are however ways you can use to avoid this repetition in academic writing and make it more appealing to read.

To avoid the repetition of words that are too common you can use synonyms. Sometimes we fit one word in several paragraphs although that one word is not the best fir every time. You can replace the word study or to study with to analyze, to interpret, to examine, to understand, to examine, to know, etc. Some students use the same word without knowing that it is not the best option. Therefore, it is best to check thesaurus for better options.

Edit, edit, edit
I will say that edit your work as many times as you are satisfied not just as a writer but as the potential reader of the work as well. This is important some students sit back and relax as they finish writing the first draft of their writing. Because they think that the work they need to do is already done. But this is not true! Once you write the first draft you need to read it again and again and find any mistake or redundancy. This usually takes a lot of time because as you read you find mistakes that were not as obvious when you were writing it for the first time.

Ask your teacher, friend, supervisor, research advisor, or any other person expert in your field to read and edit. If you are not confident about your language command you can ask a linguist to read your writing. There are plenty of options and this will help you find out any repetitive ideas, words, or phrases that you can change.

Remove unnecessary details
Sometimes students are scared that if they will remove unnecessary details from their work it will become short. Though we love what we have written or typed with so much love and patience, there is no use keeping anything that is unnecessary. Remember again this is a kind of repetition or redundancy and your writing does not needs it. Keep your writing simple precise and concise unless you are asked to write lengthy details.
