You will firstly need to have graduated from high school and be a U.S. citizen who is at least the age of 18. Due to the nature of the role, security guards will also need to be in pretty good shape.

Before you take any classes to begin training as a school security guard, you’ll need to have a background security check carried out, a credit check, fingerprinting and a drug test as standard. Note that good references are also required.

Once you’ve been hired and begun work, you’ll have to complete a further 16 hours of courses, and these must be undertaken within the first 30 days of your employment.
