There are two main kinds that are available: battle and class. Battle engravings are general bonuses that boost your abilities, speed up cooling downs, and so on. There are 43 battle engravings available, some of which are balanced with negative consequences. A good example is Grudge which can increase the amount of damage you do to bosses, while also increasing the amount of damage you take. Don't be concerned about Grudge unless you really know what you're doing.

Class engravings are cheapest Lost Ark Gold scarcer. Every advanced class is given two of them and each one of them translates to a different approach to playing that class.
