WhatsApp Messages deleted or Missing: How to Recover them

WhatsApp has become the go-to social media platform for connecting with family and friends over the past few years. In contrast to other social media platforms, Facebook allows users to send and receive unlimited messages without autodelete.

However, WhatsApp lets you delete messages you don't want to keep. In this case, there's a chance that you'll accidentally delete something. If you switch to a new device or reset your device, you may lose your messages inadvertently.

What if those messages are lost forever? No, it is not. The ability to recover deleted WhatsApp messages still exists.

Deleted WhatsApp Messages - How to Recover Them

You may have lost some of your WhatsApp messages if you frequently use WhatsApp. It could be a funny text from a friend, contact information that a colleague shared with you, or even an exchange you could present as evidence.

There are several ways to recover deleted messages even though WhatsApp doesn't provide a direct tool to do so. However, recovery methods vary depending on what type of device you have. Similarly, what works for Android phones may not work for iPhones.

Our first step is to learn how to retrieve old WhatsApp messages from an Android device.

Android application for recovering deleted WhatsApp messages

The Google Play Store boasts an incredible selection of apps and Android devices are popular for their affordability, large display, and open-source software. There's no wonder WhatsApp is fully compatible with most Android devices today. However, you can lose WhatsApp data just like any other device. Changing devices or accidentally hitting the delete button can lead to data loss.

Fortunately, WhatsApp has a cloud-based backup option that you can use if you lose messages. However, how does it work?

You can enable backup in the WhatsApp app's settings section so that it automatically keeps a copy of every message you send. A backup process begins by checking the server for duplicate messages. It creates a copy if one does not exist. Photos and videos are automatically saved by the app as well.

If you delete a message by mistake, you should look at your backup first.

Settings>Chats>Chat Backup.

Verify that the email listed matches the one you can access.

Following are the steps for recovering deleted WhatsApp messages on Android after backing up your data:

1. You should delete "WhatsApp" from your device.

2. Google Play has a new version of WhatsApp available for download.

3. Upon installation, open "WhatsApp" and enter your details.

4. A prompt will appear on your screen during installation asking for your approval

5. You can "restore" your chats from your Google Drive. The recovery process begins when you click "Restore".

6. Complete the installation by following the on-screen instructions after recovering your data.

In your chats, you should now have access to all your old messages and media.

Recovering Deleted WhatsApp Messages from an iPhone

WhatsApp for iPhones backs up regularly to the cloud, similar to WhatsApp for Android. As long as you enable backup, WhatsApp will store copies of all your messages in iCloud Drive. You can even find the most recent backup date in the account settings section.

Recovering deleted messages from iCloud is straightforward:

1. Uninstall “Whatsapp” on your device by selecting “Delete App.”

2. Check out the “App Store” to download a new version of “WhatsApp.”

3. You can install the app after downloading it successfully on your device.

4. Following the instructions on the screen will allow you to recover all deleted messages.

Your WhatsApp chat now displays all your deleted messages.

Ensure that you have enough space in your local storage before beginning the recovery process. The available local storage should be twice as huge as the backup size. In the case of a 1GB backup, at least 2GB of free storage space is needed on your device.
