Electrical Safety & Compliance Testing | Safety Testing Services – Cranage

Electrical product safety testing is recognised as being a vital part of a testing programme to ensure the item being placed on the market will not cause any harm.
The team at Cranage EMC and Safety can assess a wide range of items to ensure they are compliant with the relevant country regulations. We have an extensive range of standards on our UKAS scope and using an accredited laboratory for your product safety testing will help to mitigate the risk of danger to the consumer.
Cranage EMC and Safety offers a complete range of safety testing for electrical and electronic items in order to meet the country specific regulations of your intended market. In Europe, this is the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU and in the UK this is now Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.
Our engineers can carry out pre-compliance safety testing to assess for any issues before full testing, as well as in-situ safety testing at your premises. We are able to offer most of our product safety services in-situ, depending on the facilities a customer has.
An important part of safety testing is to complete an inspection of the equipment and documents, this includes:
• instruction manuals- to make sure the relevant safety information is included for the end user
• product markings- to ensure they contain the correct details and are durable
Most electrical safety standards will include the below testing:
• clearance and creepage distances.
• dielectric strength. This is used to determine the effectiveness of insulation
• mechanical strength. This is used to test the strength and fracture toughness of the material.
• abnormal condition test.
• single fault testing. Faults are applied to ensure the product remains safe to use
• power input
• temperature testing
• earth bond test.
