High performance 2mm pitch industrial connector withstands heavy vibration and shock

Harwin's new M225 connector series withstands up to 6 hours of 10G vibration for a wide range of industrial applications.

These compact, high-performance wire-to-board connectors feature a fiberglass reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) housing that provides a rugged construction and long life with a minimum insulation resistance of 100 MΩ for permanent signal integrity. The new product features a 2mm pitch dual row contact set that allows the through-board PCB male connector to be mated to the corresponding female crimp connector to support a range of different wire sizes (from 22AWG to 28AWG). Each tin-plated copper alloy male contact has a current rating of 3.3A (3.0A when all contacts are simultaneously applied with electrical loads) and a maximum contact resistance of 25mΩ. When the connectors are engaged, a single female contact has three contact surfaces that engage the corresponding male contacts, ensuring a reliable connection even under the most demanding application settings and challenging operating conditions.

Harwin has also developed a fast mate-before-lock retention system to increase the retention of the mating connector and contribute to the flexibility of vibration. The female connector is provided with a rubber retainer that is loose during delivery and that is pushed into the rear of the female connector, which can then expand the rubber retainer to lock the male connector.

The male connector and the female connector component have shroud contacts to prevent damage, while the polarized housing prevents possible misconnections. Female crimp contact points are available on reels (for high-volume automated production) or loosely supplied (for prototyping) and offer manual crimping tools for small batches. The M225 connector series has an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and supports 50 cycles of life. Target applications for these components include factory automation and processing machinery, industrial drives, robotics, test/monitoring instruments, handheld test equipment, and industrial automation controls.
