In the spirit of PM Narendra Modi's underlying theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in his foreign policy approach, India rolled out its vaccination drive in January this year and almost simultaneously initiated 'Vaccine Maitri' under which a total of 6.6 crore vaccine doses were sent to 95 countries. India sent about 1.1 crore vaccine shots as grants and the remaining 5.5 crore doses were commercial commitments. The grants went to neighbouring countries, very poor countries and those that have a significant Indian diaspora.
